An ideal base for exploring North Devon ...
Directions to Snapdown
From M5: Come off the M5 at Junction 27 (Tiverton) and take the A361 signed Barnstaple, till you pick up signs to South Molton B3227. Go through South Molton into the square past the Clock Tower on your left. Bear LEFT at the far end of the square – the sign is on the right hand building – to Crediton B3226. After approx 5 miles turn RIGHT, up hill – signed Chittlehamholt. At the top is a T junction – turn RIGHT – signed Chittlehampton (not left to Chittlehamholt). After approx. 200 yards, bear RIGHT at the War Memorial (stone cross) and then Snapdown is the first lane on the right.
Please note: if you use Sat Nav, or look us up on Google, you’ll probably be sent up an earlier hill and be told that you’ve arrived at your destination when you get to the lane on the left for “Stonehayes” – don’t go down this lane, but carry on to the next lane for “Snapdown” – which from this direction will be on your left.
From Exeter A377: Just after you pass Kings Nympton Railway Station turn off RIGHT on to the B3226 signed to South Molton. After about a mile you bear LEFT over a little bridge over the River Mole, and then about ½ mile later you branch off LEFT up the hill signed towards Chittlehamholt. Follow this road up and round a sharp right bend and on up into and through Chittlehamholt Village (you will pass the Village Hall with the Community Shop on your right, and then the Exeter Inn also on your right). At the junction in the village bear RIGHT, heading out towards Chittlehampton. After about ¾ mile from the village, bear RIGHT at the War Memorial and then Snapdown is the first lane on the right.
From Barnstaple A377: Turn LEFT over the River Taw (big bridge with metal railings) at Umberleigh, onto the B3227 towards South Molton. Follow this road up and down for 2 miles until you turn off RIGHT towards Chttlehamholt (there’s also a brown sign for Highbullen Hotel). You keep on this road (winding up and down and around) for approx 2.2 miles until you get to the junction at the War Memorial (which you’ll easily miss coming from this direction) – the War Memorial is about ⅓ mile after you pass a wood faced barn conversion with a curved roof on your left. There is a white ‘finger post’ sign in the right hand hedge at the War Memorial (signed Warkleigh and Satterleigh) and you turn practically back on yourself to the LEFT. Snapdown is the first lane on the right.
If you arrive at Chittlehamholt Village, you’ve missed the War Memorial – turn around and go back, you’ll be amazed to see the War Memorial in the middle of the road! Take the RIGHT fork and Snapdown is the first lane on the right.
